A client spotted us working on another project in her neighborhood and stopped by during her morning walk to ask if we could remove her fireplace. We stopped by later to take a look and provided a quote; she mentioned there had been some water leakage. Once we got into it, we discovered severely decayed wall framing and damage to the floor framing that also extended out into the garage, with the framing behind the siding deteriorated as well. On the exterior, we removed the fairly new vinyl siding, salvaged it for reinstallation, opened the wall, and rebuilt the exterior wall framing against the concrete block — installing new studs, sheathing, and rigid insulation while working around the electrical service, entrance, and distribution. On the interior, we removed the decayed area, installed new framing and R-13 batt insulation in the wall, hung and finished new drywall, and reinstalled the siding. We also infilled the floor with matching flooring where the hearth had been removed. The client was extremely satisfied and happy with the result.
